North Carolina growers ship over 4 million poinsettias to markets across our state and up and down the east coast during the holiday season. These plants are photoperiodic, meaning it’s the longer winter nights that turn some of their leaves, called bracts, from green to red. Growers carefully schedule their plantings to ensure poinsettias color up at the right time. In our latest podcast episode we met a grower and a researcher who are looking for ways to expand this plant’s market.
